~Thankful Thursday~

Welcome to Thankful Thursday! Join Iris at Grace Alone for more thankful hearts.

I am so thankful this week that when the enemy is filling my head with crazy thoughts, feelings, offenses and deceptions...God's Word started shining a light on them and I see them more clearly.

I have been battling with doubts, uneasiness, feeling like I didn't fit in, not valuable and I was on the slippery slope of depression. Let me clarify...this is not about where I fit in the body of Christ or who I am in Christ...that I know and I am secure, but it is about where I fit in this world that we live in, my community and among those who I call "friend". I blogged about it on Tuesday called Who Am I and Where Do I Fit In?

I spent time last night praying and asking God to help me sort through all my emotions and thoughts. I needed a clear view of what was the truth and what was a lie.

I retreived a book that I used years ago by Stormie Omartian called Finding Peace for Your Heart. I felt the Lord drawing me to this book for guidance and clarity in the areas that I was struggling in.

This is what I found...

A lie is an inaccurate or untrue statement that only has power if we believe it. Then it become deception. Deception is walking, thinking, acting, or feeling in opposition to God's way and believing it's okay to do so. Satan is the deceiver, and we are deceived when we line ourselves up with him. Deception allows a lie to enter into our actions.

We fall into this deception by judging our worth according to the world's standard rather than God's. The world's system of competition and comparison is destructive and brings feelings of intimidation and inadquacy as it pits one person's God-given gifts and potential against that of another. God says we are all unique and valuable. The pitfall is in trying to live up to what we think we should be or not be rather than what the Lord says we are.

Low self-esteem is the lack of belief in oneself and self respect and the habit of accepting lies about oneself. When low self-esteem or lack of self-worth takes control of the personality it can be paralyzing. We all want to be somebody!

I Corinthians 7:7
"Each one has his own gift from God"

You have to be able to see that without money, without a job, without your talent, without having your hair done or make-up on, without being thin, without nice clothes, house, car, or family, you are worth something.

She went on to say "many times God was the only one who believed in me, but that was enough."

I am so thankful today that God meets us right where we are and talks to us individually...on our own level. I needed these exact words yesterday and woke up this morning with a completely different outlook on things.

Have a wonderfully blessed day!

  3. I'm studying a book by Stormie also--The Power of Praying Through the Bible". I'm taking this slowly and soaking in all she has to say.

And, her words clearly spoke to you just when you needed them most!!

You are God's child--uniquely designed and created by Him. Think of your own children--how much you love them and their worth to you. Now, think of GOD's UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!! In HIS eyes we are priceless for He loves us beyond anything we can even begin to comprehend!!

Girl..I just wrote TWO DEVOTIONALS yesterday because what you have been going through in your mind, was EXACTLY me!! I've got a chisel girl, because I'm REFUSING to go around that mountain ANYMORE!! I'm done with it. So, I'm either going over the mountain or through it with my chisel and digging my way through to the the other side. NO MORE, depression, insecurity, and everything that goes alone with these emotions that keep us going around that mountain, I'm DONE!!Want to dig through the mountain with me sis???? God's leading the way beloved one!! Hallelujah!!

  17. I love all of Stormie's books. And what a blessing the Lord brought the book to mind. He is faithful. When He has you in a hard place it's for a purpose - His Divine Purpose for your life.
I struggled several years ago with questions of where do I fit in, where's my community. I would not ever choose to go back to that place again, but I'm thankful for the lessons I learned along the way.

    Have a blessed weekend.

Bless you! May you see yourself as God sees you; created perfectly in His image! Remember Psalm 139: 13-18...He knows you...He knows everyday of your life...and has ordained them..they are written in His Book!
